Vacuum Pump Rebuild Lead Times, Warranty and Shipping

Three questions come up on almost every quote: how long will the rebuild take, what is the warranty, and who pays the freight. Here are the straight answers, so you can plan an outage around them before you call.

Rebuild lead times

A full rebuild of a large Nash CL or 904 series pump takes 8 to 10 weeks from the day the pump arrives in Houston to the day it ships back. That window covers the complete seven-step process: teardown and a written inspection report, material inspection, remanufacturing of worn parts (rotors, cones, port plates, shafts, heads and bodies), tolerance inspection, assembly, painting and final inspection. Smaller frames and pumps that need less casting work usually finish sooner; the quote states the date for your pump once we have seen it.

The clock starts when the pump is on our floor, so the fastest way to shorten the total time is to ship it as soon as the decision is made and send the nameplate data, a description of the service, and photos ahead of it. Scope approval after the teardown report is the other place time is won or lost; a same-day answer keeps the pump in the machining queue.

If 8 to 10 weeks is longer than the outage allows, ask about the exchange program. We keep rebuilt units for the common Nash and Somarakis frames on the shelf, which turns a two-month rebuild into a shipping day, and your pump is rebuilt afterwards to become the next exchange unit. For a pump that is down right now, call the emergency line at 713-201-1589.

Warranty

Every rebuild and every new replacement pump carries a three-year warranty against defects in parts and workmanship. That is the same promise on a rebuilt 904 as on a new drop-in Nash replacement or a PM 5986. The warranty covers what we made and how we assembled it; it does not cover damage from seal water loss, process upsets, abrasive carryover or operation outside the conditions the pump was rebuilt for, which is why the inspection report records the condition the pump arrived in and the materials we recommended for the service.

Three years is a longer term than most OEM service centers offer on a repair. We can offer it because the shop that machines the parts is the shop that assembles the pump, and because after 4,395 jobs since 2003 we know which parts fail and build them to last.

Freight and shipping

Freight is billed to the customer, both inbound to Houston and outbound after the rebuild. We will arrange the carrier, skid and crate the pump for the return trip, and ship anywhere in the United States; most plants on the Gulf Coast see the pump within a day of it leaving the shop. If you prefer your own carrier or a freight account, tell us when you approve the scope. Details on shipping a pump to us, including what to drain and how to secure the rotor, are on the service area page.

Field service

Yes, we go to the plant. Field service covers on-site inspection, removal and installation support, alignment and start-up assistance, and troubleshooting a pump that is losing vacuum before anyone decides to pull it. Field work is quoted separately from the rebuild and scheduled around your outage.

What to send for a quote

Nameplate model and serial number, the service the pump runs in (seal liquid, process gas, duty cycle), what it is doing wrong, and a few photos. With that we return a scope and a date. Send it to contact Precise Mechanical or call 281-319-5595.
