A liquid ring vacuum pump should be rebuilt when the casing and rotor are structurally sound and parts are available, exchanged when the plant cannot afford the rebuild downtime, and replaced when the casing is cracked or thinned, failures keep recurring, or the series is obsolete. The right answer depends on five things: the condition of the casing, rotor and cone; whether the OEM still supports the model; how much downtime the process can tolerate; the energy cost of running a worn pump; and where you are in the budget cycle. The three options, defined
Rebuild. Your pump is torn down, inspected, remanufactured to original OEM tolerances and returned to you. You keep your pump, its serial number and its asset record. Worn cones, heads and rotors are machined or clad; shafts and bearings are replaced; the casing is repaired if it can be. At Precise Mechanical this follows a fixed seven-step process.
Exchange. You receive a rebuilt pump of the same model from stock, install it, and ship your failed pump back as the core. The rebuilding time has already been spent, so the plant's downtime is reduced to removal and installation. You do not get your original pump back.
Replace with a new drop-in. A newly manufactured pump built to match the original's footprint, flanges and shaft so it installs with minimal or no piping or baseplate modification. This resets the asset clock and lets you specify materials (316L, titanium, Hastelloy) the original never had.
